Tickets are selling fast for the latest all-singing, all-dancing production from the University of Chichester’s acclaimed Triple Threat Company, who open the autumn season with a high-energy and roaringly funny rendition of The Drowsy Chaperone. With music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, and a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, The Drowsy Chaperone, winner of 5 Tony Awards (including Best Book and Best Original Score), is a masterful and comedic spoof of 1920's jazz-age musicals. Now, the University’s talented performers bring their own visually stunning and layered interpretation to the stage this November at The Assembly Theatre, Bognor Regis Campus.

The show opens with a man in a chair playing his favourite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Following two lovers on the eve of their wedding, we see trials and tribulations unfold. Between a bumbling best man, gangsters posing as pastry chefs, and an intoxicated chaperone, it is a cocktail for one wild ride. Hailed by New York Magazine as "The Perfect Broadway Musical" The Drowsy Chaperone is a brilliant meta-musical that pokes fun at every musical theatre trope of the age.

Course Leader Andrew Wright said: “I know first-hand the ambition, commitment and quality that sit at the heart of this programme. The Drowsy Chaperone presents our second year students with exciting and demanding challenges, requiring them to demonstrate real versatility, stylistic awareness and depth as performers.”

Cast member and vocal captain Claudia Foster said: “We are so excited to bring this fun-filled show to life! From the outrageous and delightful characters, countless dance breaks and the glamorous 1920's flare, you are guaranteed a joy-filled evening of entertainment with The Drowsy Chaperone!“.

This hilarious and sparkling production, featuring songs such as ‘Show Off’, ‘Cold Feets’, and ‘Love is Always Lovely in the End’, and is directed by Emma Kilbey (director of previous successes Nine and Steel Pier), with choreography by Sophia Truesdell and musical direction by Adam Blosse. The creative team – known for their past production of Rock of Ages performed by The University Of Chichester’s Musical Theatre (Performance) students earlier this year – reunite to weave together an unforgettable world of movement, music, and magic.

Following recent sell-out seasons, the Triple Threat Company once again showcases the next generation of musical theatre talent, bringing together dramatic love stories, stunning choreography, and outstanding live performance.

Catch this fabulous cast at The Assembly Theatre, University of Chichester, Bognor Regis, PO21 1HR.
