The independent pub scored 73.5 out of 100 on the travel website’s index and has scored 4.6 stars out of five from more than 400 Google reviews.

Locals Insider said the pub’s high ranking was also driven by it being open for 100 hours a week and sitting inside the station with no ticket needed.
Locals Insider spokesperson Martin Danemaq said: “A station pub can make or break a journey, whether you’re killing time before a delayed train or meeting friends on the way home. Our ranking brings together the best of them, from grand city concourses to remote Highland platforms.
“Steamworks came out on top in the South East thanks to brilliant customer reviews and generous opening hours – it’s a great example of a seaside station pub doing things right. With a winner in every region, there’s a great station pub to discover wherever your next train takes you – just keep an eye on the departure board!”
The Locals Insider study ranked 46 station pubs in the UK on customer reviews, affordability, opening hours, accessibility and aesthetic. They were then scored out of 100 points across five weighted criteria. These were customer satisfaction (35 points, based on Google ratings adjusted for number of reviews), value for money (25 points, based on the price of the cheapest draught pint), opening hours (15 points, based on hours open per week), station convenience (15 points, based on whether the pub is inside the station and whether a ticket is needed) and aesthetic (10 points, based on each pub's look and feel).
Steamworks was the South East’s only entry in the national top 10.
Nationally, The Draughtsman Alehouse at Doncaster Station was named Britain’s best station pub with 84.1 points. This was ahead of Holdens Codsall Station in Staffordshire (second place, 78 points) and The North Western at Liverpool Lime Street (third place, 76.8 points).
