JubyLee bakers: This is how a small charity is producing amazing cakes by amazing people

The JubyLee Bakes Dream Team was delighted to welcome Gary Shipton, High Sheriff of West Sussex, and Vicky Booth, CEO of Sussex Community Foundation, to their kitchen in Thakeham on Tuesday (October 20).

The visitors enjoyed meeting two of the original young bakers, hearing about their achievements during the past ten years and sampling a delicious selection of their Great Taste Award-winning bakes.

Founded in 2016, JubyLee Bakes is a volunteer-led charity celebrating a decade of creating meaningful work opportunities for young adults with learning disabilities. Through baking, teamwork and community engagement, the young people develop practical skills, confidence and friendships, and, above all, take pride in their achievements.

Ellen Tomlinson, General Manager, said: “We were particularly pleased to welcome representatives of two organisations that have supported our journey over the years and to share our belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to contribute, achieve and be valued.”

Gary, who last visited the kitchen several years ago as a judge for a community chest awards scheme, said this was a superb organisation. “The kitchens are spotless – just like the plates after the cakes have been sampled. JubyLee Bakes really lives up to the slogan - Amazing Bakes by Amazing People!”
