More than 19,000 sq ft retail development could be built in Selsey
A more than 19,000 sq ft retail development could be built in Selsey, with property, land and asset management company Landlink proposing a new drive-thru and discount food store.
Landlink held a public drop-in session on Wednesday (October 28), inviting Selsey residents to view the plans for themselves.
The development would comprise a drive-thru cafe or restaurant and a discount food store, alongside a 133-space car park, a toucan crossing and landscaping to enhance biodiversity. It would be located next to the existing Asda and Costa outlets at Wave Approach, extending Selsey’s retail centre.
According to proposals available via Landlink’s website, designs will include timber cladding around the drive-thru and food store, expected to grey over time and naturally weather in the sea air.

The property management company says the development will not only reduce journeys Selsey residents make to Chichester to access retail services, but that it will bring employment opportunities.
40 new jobs are expected to be created, with Landlink saying their assessments “demonstrate that the positive economic benefits for the town outweigh any loss of crop yield, which is too small to impact the viability of Selsey Farm.”
Plans also include enhancement and protection of biodiversity by introducing grassland, scrub planting, wildflower areas, bat boxes, bird boxes and reptile areas. According to Landlink, this, alongside sustainable urban drainage solutions, will lead to a biodiversity net gain.
The property management company is now inviting people to have their say. Residents can complete a feedback survey until November 11, which will inform the proposals as they continue to develop.
