Sussex based singer-songwriter's posthumous album released

Pat Martyn’s completed album ‘Part-Time Record’ released on September 4th by his wife, Lucy Tyler.

Pat Martyn spent his whole life writing and recording music, and his wish was to share his music with the world.

Lucy Tyler, Pat’s wife, released Part-Time Record, the first release from the Pat’s wider body of music, granting the late musician’s wish.

In August 2025, the Mid Sussex based singer-songwriter sadly died at the age of 31.

Pat was the driving creative force of the record recorded in his home studio in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, where he wrote and composed every composition himself, with a strong technical understanding of recording, sound design and mixing.

The late singer dedicated himself to finishing the album throughout the two and a half years he lived with cancer, completing his final production session just over a week before he died.

In his honour, his wife, Lucy Tyler, released the album earlier this month, offering the first glimpse into the catalogue he created throughout his life.

She said: “I’m so happy that Pat’s album is now out there for people to discover. Finishing and releasing Part-Time Record was one of his biggest goals, and he worked on it right up until the end.

"It feels bittersweet to finally have it out in the world without him here to see it, but above all, it’s a beautiful gift he left behind.

"I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has listened, supported and reached out to tell me what they think of the album. I just hope as many people as possible get to hear his music.”

For those who knew Pat he is not only remembered by his musical talent- which is evident in this album release- but also for his kindness, humour, and authenticity in the way he approached life.

This posthumously released album is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Itunes, and more, which can all be accessed on the artist’s HearNow page.

The album, which is also available to pre-order on vinyl lp via Bandcamp, has 14 songs, including the single ‘You’ released back in July.

According to Lucy, Pat began to play instruments by ear and started writing songs in his teens, where he developed a distinctive sound influenced by indie, alt-pop, soft rock, and electronic music.

Pat’s inspiration behind the album

Creating something authentic and honest always remained Pat's priority, his lyrical inspiration came from his observation of the world. Pat loved people-watching and was constantly drawing inspiration from the world around him. He had the ability to find meaning in small moments and capture specific experiences that had stayed with him, which he then translated into music.

Lucy highlighted this: “He had a rare ability to capture moments, ideas and emotions with depth, precision and honesty, transforming them into thoughtful and emotive songs.”

This is clear when listening to Part-Time Record.

Pat Martyn’s overall musical inspiration came from artists such as Nick Drake, Elliot Smith and The Beatles. Lucy noted that Part-Time Record was influenced by artists/bands such as Beck, Radiohead and Air. The album is a great listen for psychedelic, indie, and alternative rock lovers.

Lucy also noted that Pat looked up to producer Nigel Godrich.

With this being Pat Martyn’s first album release, his wife Lucy noted that beyond this album, there are many older songs of Pat's that are going to release (as he wished), where you can hear more of his musical influences.
