“It’s all about releasing trapped trauma”: Inside the holistic wellbeing retreat focused on positivity, healing and men’s mental health

Meet Lee Payne, owner of the holistic wellbeing retreat Soulpositive. Having practiced massage and reiki for five years, he has decided to open his own space at Adsdean Farm, Chichester, combining traditional massage, life coaching and healing frequencies.

Soulpositive opened on October 1, 2026. Its offerings include Swedish Massage, Reiki, Deep Soul Healing, Bespoke Massage and more.

“I’ve always had a naturally positive outlook on life, and I strongly believe in the power of a positive mindset,” Lee said. “It’s something that has supported me through many different industries and situations in my life.”

Wanting to share his positivity with others, Lee explained that the ethos of Soulpositive is centered around creating a nurturing space for clients – whether they’re looking for regular sessions to support them through difficult times, or simply an hour of escapism.

While traditional massage often focuses on muscle work – something Lee says he is happy to provide – clients visiting Soulpositive can expect a greater emphasis on calm, healing and release.

“My approach is to relax the client and calm the nervous system. I don’t go down the sports science route and start getting really stuck into muscles [...] my thing is to calm you down,” Lee said.

A key offering at the wellness retreat is ‘Flow and Fusion’, an original kind of massage that draws inspiration from practices all over the world.

“When I was doing my Swedish Massage, I realised quite quickly that I wanted to start flowing with it,” Lee explained. “So I created this treatment called ‘Flow and Fusion’.

“It blends my experience in Thailand and a massage style called Lomi Lomi, which is Hawaiian. The whole massage is based around waves, so you’ll move up and down the body, you’ll push out, you’ll swirl around. It’s just really flowing and extremely calming.”

Healing is an essential part of Lee’s work, and is not just restricted to the treatments themselves. Based at Adsdean Farm, Soulpositive is able to utilise its countryside surroundings.

“It’s the drive in,” Lee said in response to what makes the location so special. “I knew I wanted to be here as soon as I drove down that track.

“And then there’s the history of the area – Vikings, Romans, they’ve walked these paths. You’ve got the harbour on one side and Kingley Vale on the other. It’s really historic and absolutely beautiful.”

According to Lee, admitting you want to experience this kind of escapism and release can be harder for some than others.

Another key part of his work is men’s mental health – something he focuses on through both men’s bodywork massage and life coaching.

“I went through a tough period in my life. I think every man does, but not every man will talk about it,” he said.

“I do the healing, and they open up – sometimes they’ll shed a tear. They might sit up and talk to me afterwards. It’s all about releasing trapped trauma.”

Inspired by his own experience of holistic wellbeing helping him through difficult times, Lee has opened up his practice to men in search of a safe space – whether to talk, or simply switch off from the world.

For the holistic practitioner, however, not all healing has to be slow, quiet and measured.

Another one of his offerings, yet to hit the retreat at Adsdean Farm, is ‘Yogibeats’. Blending traditional yoga and electronic house music, these sessions start slow, hit a peak of 122BPM in the middle and end with some calming stretches.

“I was doing a yoga session down in the New Forest about two years ago, and one of my favourite tracks came on. It was a track from back in the day, and it really resonated with me while doing the yoga,” Lee explained.

“We’ve been doing it in the New Forest for about two years. We have a massive following. These things are starting to pop up now – a few spiritual events with live music. But we are still really unique in the Chichester area.”

Lee added that Yogibeats will be coming to Chichester soon, with those interested keeping an eye out on the Holistic Circle website.

“I mix the whole thing live. It’s a natural high. You’ve got the yoga, you’ve got the music. It’s just absolutely beautiful.”

When asked what his main piece of advice for those wanting to take a step towards better mental and physical wellbeing is, Lee said slowing down is an essential that we often forget.

“I think massage and healing should be part of your regular wellbeing practice,” he said. “It’s great to go to the gym, it’s great to go for a walk, it’s great to go for a swim. But you need to stop too.

“In there, I say to my client: ‘This is your time. Forget your to-do list, forget what you’re doing later, forget what you’re doing tomorrow. This is about you’.”
