Best year yet for open gardens in north Ferring

Home owners living north of the railway invited people to view their gardens to raise money for Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice, near Arundel.

Norland co-ordinator Janet Porter said they were delighted to report the open gardens event had been a huge success.

“More than £5,300 was raised, exceeding all previous years, and the Norland group are very grateful to visitors and everyone who took part in any way to help them achieve this.”

Visitors were able to look around more than 20 gardens, as well as explore various stalls and demonstrations that had been put on to entertain them.

Celebrating its fifth year, the Norland Open Gardens event saw gardens open in Langbury Lane, Highdown Way, Cissbury Road, Downview Road, Downview Avenue and Green Park.

The event also featured an array of dancers, choirs, musicians, face painters, owls and the Harley Hogs, as well as a barbecue, raffle and tombola.

Janet added: “The weather was on our side, we had lots of visitors and the local roads were really buzzing. We couldn’t be more pleased.”

Friends and neighbours who live north of the railway in Ferring have been raising money for Chestnut Tree Hospice over several years.

In the past four years, they raised £14,000 to help the hospice continue its work for children with life-limiting illnesses and supporting their families.

Chestnut Tree House is the only children’s hospice in Sussex, and cares for over 300 children and young adults up to the age of 19 with progressive life-shortening conditions from Sussex and south east Hampshire.
