Braimah Kanneh-Mason is soloist with Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra

Braimah Kanneh-Mason joins Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra for a performance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.

Spokeswoman Jenny Hasler said: “Members of the superb Kanneh-Mason family are no strangers to Worthing audiences, and this promises to be a real highlight of the WPO’s concert season. We hope you can join us on Sunday, February 8 at 3pm at Worthing Assembly Rooms.

“Tickets are available from www.wtm.org.uk 01903 206206. Further details are also on our website www.worthingphil.org.uk and our social media pages on Facebook and Instagram.

“Braimah Kanneh-Mason is a British violinist who has performed throughout the UK, Europe, USA and Australia. He is the second eldest of the Kanneh-Masons, a famously musical family of seven talented siblings.

“In recent seasons he has played concerti with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bath Philharmonia. Through playing and presenting Braimah has recorded an episode in the BBC series In the Studio, has co-presented a radio programme for Classic FM and recorded as a soloist for BBC Radio 3 and performed on BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends show.

“An avid chamber musician, Braimah is a member of the Kaleidoscope Collective and the Kanneh-Mason Piano Trio with his siblings, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason. He has also collaborated with artists including Nicola Benedetti, Tom Poster and Priya Mitchell.

“Braimah is a passionate advocate for equal opportunity and diversity in music education and is a cultural ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda and a junior ambassador for Music in Secondary Schools Trust. He has been a mentor at Sistema England, Junior Music Works and a mentor for the Antigua and Barbuda Youth Orchestra (ABYSO).

“Our programme concludes with Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, a visionary work on an epic scale, depicting an artist’s opium-induced visions of obsessive love, ranging from tender longing to a nightmarish witches' sabbath.

“With its bold orchestration and striking originality, it revolutionised Romantic music through its vivid storytelling and emotional intensity. Worthing Philharmonic thrives on performing fantastic, large-scale symphonic works which have thrilled our audiences in the past and we hope will do just that on February 8.

“Rossini’s overture to La Gazza Ladra (The Thieving Magpie) opens our programme. Prepare yourself for some cracking snare drum rolls here. The wartime setting of this opera made Rossini incorporate all sorts of militaristic devices, but the overture is another typically boisterous affair once you get past the stately opening. At the centre, though, is one of Rossini's most famous waltz themes.

“The concert will be conducted by our music director Dominic Grier and the orchestra will be led by Rebecca Bell.”
