Hastings and Rother emergency services issue warning and advice over high winds
With the Hastings and Rother area likely to be hit by the tail end of Storm Austin on Friday and Saturday the Met Office has issued a Yellow weather warning for wind on Friday October 23.
The West Country is set to bear the worst brunt of the storm, but winds nearing 60mph and heavy rain will affect Hastings and Rother over the next two days.

Hastings and Rother Police issued a statement to say: “Following wind and rain warnings issued by the Met Office, we might expect to see disruptions across our area in the next few days. “Seriously slow your speed if you need to drive, or only travel if essential. Road debris and fallen trees could disrupt your journey. Avoid driving through floodwater “Our phone lines tend to be extremely busy during weather warnings, please only call 999 if it is an emergency; remember our website is available for non-emergency reports 24/7.”
An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A few minutes of preparation can make a big difference. Secure loose outdoor items such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds, and fences. “If you need to travel, check for disruption before you leave and allow extra time for your journey. If you are near the coast, stay well back from cliff edges and large waves, and never take risks for a better view or photograph. “Weather conditions can change quickly, so keep an eye on the latest forecasts and warnings. Be prepared and know who to call should you need to.”
