Lewes MP pays tribute with ‘huge thank you’ to Newhaven RNLI volunteers
Lewes constituency MP James MacCleary has paid a formal visit to Newhaven RNLI station.
He said: "It's easy to forget that these incredible people are all volunteers giving up their own time to help others, often in challenging and dangerous conditions.
"I was particularly impressed by the work they've put into making their crew inclusive and welcoming. They have a significantly higher proportion of female volunteers than the average lifeboat crew which is fantastic to see.
A huge thank you to everyone involved for having me and everything you do. Our lifeboat crews deserve all the support and recognition we can give them. If you can, please support our local lifeboat station and help them continue their vital work."

There were enthusiastic responses to the MP's social media post. Joe Torres said: "A brave and dedicated team. I couldn't do it." Linda Smith said: "Heroes, all of them." And Newhaven RNLI said: "Thank you for your visit and for your support."
Set up in 1803, Newhaven Lifeboat Station covers the coast from Beachy Head to Brighton. It operates an all-weather Severn class lifeboat. The crews have been awarded 19 medals for gallantry.
Earlier this year an international student from China, Zeyang Li who was studying in London, was saved by the volunteer crew at Newhaven RNLI when he and his companion were cut off by the tide near the cliffs at Seven Sisters. In October he went back to the station to pay tribute to the crew.
