Plans for 12 new Chichester commercial units approved
Plans to redevelop a storage site in Chichester have been approved by the district council.
The application from NJS Group, to demolish its buildings in Quarry Lane and replace them with 12 commercial units plus parking space, was given the nod by planning officers.

A statement submitted with the application said: “We believe that this is a well-considered proposal which will develop an existing tired industrial base to an attractive new industrial park, specifically aimed at smaller industrial clients with a large range of unit sizes.”
The council received one objection to the plans from The Chichester Society, which stated: “We take the view that the ageing industrial estates of Terminus Road and Quarry Lane, given their proximity to the City centre, should, as sites become available, be re-purposed for residential development and new commercial units be located outside of the A27.
“This particular site also offers an attractive waterside location on which the proposed commercial development turns its back.”
But planning officers pointed out that the site was in an established commercial area, surrounded by a variety of commercial and industrial buildings, the noise from which ‘could have adverse impacts on residential properties’.
They added: “It is not considered that a small pocket of residential properties surrounded by commercial uses would be appropriate or would create a good standard of accommodation for future occupants.”
