Steyning Jazz Club welcomes trio for tribute to George Gershwin
The Gabriel Latchin Trio will be returning to Steyning Jazz Club on Friday, February 6 offering a tribute to George Gershwin.
Club spokesman Colin Jilks said: “British pianist and composer Gabriel Latchin has made a name for himself as one of the UK’s finest musicians, praised internationally by critics and world-renowned musicians alike. Known for his effortlessly swinging dynamism and compelling performances, Gabriel was recently praised by The Guardian as the best straight-ahead jazz pianist to appear in the past few years. Jazzwise recently described his playing as impeccable, with the clarity of his lines evoking something of Hank Jones or Tommy Flanagan. Awesomely praised in The Times, he has also been featured in DownBeat (USA) and Jazz Japan.
“Now a major highlight on the UK jazz scene, The Gabriel Latchin Trio, with Gabriel Latchin, piano; Steve Brown , drums; and Jeremy Brown, bass, take inspiration from Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock, although the February 6 evening concert will be paying a particular tribute to the music of George Gershwin, the pre-eminent American composer. The Man I Love, the trio’s fifth album, features new arrangements of all-Gershwin favourites, including Summertime, Someone to Watch Over Me and I Got Rhythm.
“A regular performer at London’s premier jazz venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Jazz Club and the 606, Latchin can often be heard with contemporaries Sara Dowling, Atila, Nat Steele’s Portrait of the MJQ and The Steve Fishwick Quartet. He has also performed with Salena Jones, Roy Hargrove, Jason Marsalis, Ronnie Cuber and Grant Stewart.”
