Another motorist recorded driving almost 50mph on 30mph Eastbourne road

Officers explained that they had been supporting Project EDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death) with a week of action from Monday, October 17, to Friday, October 21. As part of the week of action police said they carried out various vehicle speed checks daily on a number of roads across Eastbourne.

A Sussex Police spokesperson added: “Earlier this week we were at Friday Street (Monday) for checks with a very positive result in which no drivers were recorded in excess of the speed limit. Over yesterday and today (Friday) teams have been out and about conducting speed checks in King Edward’s Parade, Priory Road and Prince William Parade as part of Project EDWARD. In total, over the course of our checks, over 15 drivers were recorded exceeding the limit, with the highest being 48mph in a 30mph zone.”

Speeding is one of the fatal five driving offences as it is one of the main contributors to serious road collisions and road deaths in Sussex each year. The other offences are drink and/or drug-driving, not wearing a seatbelt, careless and anti-social driving, and being distracted while driving.

Project EDWARD is a national week of action where forces and partners across the UK come together to raise awareness and take part in various enforcement activities.

Officers said following recent community feedback on social media, the your Eastbourne neighbourhood policing team carried out checks last weekend with the highest speed recorded being more than 49mph on a 30mph road.
