Young artists celebrated in major new East Sussex exhibition
From The Ground Studio
East Sussex art collective From The Ground Studio is offering an open call exhibition of visual art.
Spokesman Orin Johns, from the group, said it featured “a wide range of practices from painting and sculpture to photography and installation from over 25 young artists. Most are local to Sussex; some are coming from around the world. To further build the creative community, members of our collective will run free art workshops in paper folding, badge making and cordage.
“Our aim is to spotlight youth artists and use creativity to build community. We believe that art is the key to inspire the hope and action that will shape the future we want to see.”
The venue is Atrium Gallery, Marine Workshops, Railway Approach, Newhaven, BN9 0ER; open September 9-20, Wednesday to Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 10am-3pm.
“For us, creativity is a form of self-exploration, from which we gain the ability to be in better connection with ourselves and others. While our collective From The Ground tells a broader story, each of the works in our exhibition speaks of how it feels to be a young creative today. Our goal is to create authentic community through art.
“We have 28 artists in total. From The Ground, our collective, is organising the show. The collective is made up of three of us. We then have an additional 25 artists ranging in age from 19 years to mid-30s. Many of the artists are local to Sussex. However, some are coming from around the world – from five countries spanning three continents.”
