'At fault' .. 'quite sloppy' .. 'very few touches' - ratings from Crawley Town's embarrassing loss to Wimborne Town

Woeful Crawley Town bowed out of the FA Cup to non-league opposition for the second year running – suffering the biggest ‘cupset’ of the weekend losing 2-0 to Southern League outfit Wimborne Town.

Seung-Woo Yang gave Wimborne the lead with a magical finish ten minutes into the game.

Crawley dominated possession but failed to test the Wimborne keeper, with a lack of creativity and attacking impetus letting them down.

The Reds looked to be building some momentum early in the second half but that soon faded.

With ten minutes remaining Cam Munn tapped it home to make it 2-0 – the win putting the Magpies into the second round and giving the Wimborne a day they will never forget and Crawley one they will want to in a hurry.

Here are our player ratings – and the fact the man we picked out as Crawley’s best operator wasn’t even on the pitch in the first half says it all…

Vito Mannone: 3.5 – The experienced goalkeeper was at fault for Wimborne’s opener in the first half as his throw fell short of its target and the home side capitalised. Did produce a good save while Wimborne led 2-0.

Kellan Gordon: 3 – Drove down the right hand side well at times and got into good crossing positions but his deliveries failed to beat the first man on a number of occasions or were too close to the keeper.

Charlie Barker: 4 – The 23 year old was in midfield once again and battled well at times winning some of his aerial duels but was quite sloppy on the ball throughout the game.

Priestley Farquharson: 5 – One of the Reds’ stronger players in what was an embarrassing performance. Won most of his duels and used his strength and physicality well during the first half. He had to come off with an injury midway through the second 45.

Danilo Orsi: 3 – Crawley opted to play direct particularly in the first half and the striker struggled to make any impact at all having very few touches before being taken off at half time.

Stephen Duke-McKenna: 4 – Had very little joy down the right hand side and rarely got the rub of the green with the solidity of the Wimborne backline.

Lewis Richards: 3.5 – Quiet first half from the left back. Didn’t offer anything from an attacking front to drive Crawley forward let alone defensively.

Jonny Russell: 4.5 – The Irishman was a left centre-back again and definitely improved in the second half with some good runs from deep.

Jude Arthurs: 4 – Former Bromley midfielder struggled to galvanise his teammates as Crawley captain and wasn’t really involved in the build-up as the Reds looked to play it long, struggling to play through the 7th tier side.

Dylan Morgan: 5 – Just like Duke-McKenna, didn’t have a lot of luck down his flank on the left. Had a few shots fired wide and his crosses did not lead to anything prosperous.

Kai Jennings: 3 – The Wimbledon loanee had a tough time in midfield but did have a good effort in the first half while it was 1-0 which flashed wide.

Substitutes:

Josh Flint: 6 – Gave the Reds some momentum when he came on at half-time, driving his team up the pitch with his marauding runs and was by far Crawley’s best player.

Nathan Tinsdale: 4 – The youngster struggled in difficult circumstances like many of his teammates.

Pemi Aderoju: 4 – Was more effective up front than Orsi, winning flick ons from the lofted balls up front. Had one great chance five minutes into the second half which he volleyed straight at the keeper.

Ben Heneghan: 3.5 – The 6ft 3 centre back came on to make his debut but failed to make any sort of impact.

Malcolm Ebiowei: 5 – A few neat touches and dribbles from Derby County attacker but didn’t have enough time to effect the game.
