'Like watching a boxer get knocked out' - Brighton explain Mats Wieffer injury ahead of Leeds United
All the latest team news for Brighton and Hove Albion ahead of Leeds United
Brighton will be without full back Mats Wieffer until after the next international break.
The Dutch international sustained a knee injury in the 4-3 loss at Chelsea last weekend and will miss this Saturday's clash against Leeds United.
Wieffer will also be sidelined for the trip to Coventry, the Carabao Cup clash at Manchester United and the home clash against Arsenal on September 19.
All being well, the 26-year-old will be available for the trip to Sunderland on October 10.
Fabian Hurzeler on Mats Wieffer
"I can explain this quite easy," said head coach Fabian Hurzeler, ahead of Albion's Premier League clash against Leeds United.
"Because I also like to watch like boxing. And sometimes in boxing, when someone gets like a hit, a knockout. Then you see how weak his legs go.
"And then the legs get in very strange positions. And it might happen that your knee gets injured, or your ankle gets twisted.
"And it was a similar situation with Mats, where he got a hit with the ball in his face and then he lost the control of his body.
"And then his legs got in a strange position, and therefore this injury happens.”
‘He held his head then felt his knee’
Hurzeler added: "But luckily it isn't a bad one. So we hope that he will be back on the pitch quite quickly.
"But that was how it happened. And that's I think very, very unlucky.
"And not a normal injury. But the injury we have to deal with and find solutions.
"He has to do something with the knee. He held his head, he stood up, he felt his knee.
"So that was like how the players explained it to me. And yeah it was a strange and unlucky one. But things happen in football."
Costinha ready to step up
Hurzeler does have full back options, with summer arrival Costinha the most likely option to step up against Leeds.
“Yeah, he might be an option, yes,” said Hurzeler when asked on Costinha.
“Every player adapts differently to demands from the Premier League. And we have now a few signings.
But regarding Castinha, he's a physical player. He is very fit and he's a very clever player.
“He understands the game. And therefore, I'm really pleased with his development.
”So far, I'm really pleased with his attitude, he's an absolute team player.
“He adds great values to this club already in this short period. So, yeah, definitely he can be an option.”
