'Not our day' - Fabian Hurzeler explains injuries to Brighton duo at Liverpool

All the reaction from Brighton’s 2-0 Premier League loss to Liverpool at Anfield

Fabian Hurzeler lamented two more injuries to Brighton after their 2-0 loss at Liverpool.

The Seagulls were forced into an early substitution at Anfield as Ferdi Kadioglu was replaced by Costinha after just six minutes, while midfielder Chema Andres was forced off on 54 minutes and was replaced by Malick Yalcouye.

Brighton are already without the likes of Mats Wieffer (knee), Yankuba Minteh (leg), Kaoru Mitoma (hamstring), Pascal Struijk (strain), Femi Azeez (strain) and Zadok Yohanna (fitness), Evan Ferguson (ankle) and Stefanos Tzimas (knee).

"It's a hip," said Hurzeler when asked about KAdioglu after the defeat at Anfield.

"It's a hip but I don't know yet [how serious] so hopefully nothing big but we have to go and see and wait for the scan before I say everything.

On Chema Andres, Hurzeler added: "Similar. It's a similar place where [Ferdi] had the injury so not our day. To summarise, not our day.

A Pascal Gross own goal and a strike from Alexander Isak did the damage for Liverpool. Brighton’s best chance came in the first half as Yasin Ayari skied an effort over the bar.

Hurzeler was pleased with aspects of the performance but third placed Brighton lacked their usual cutting edge.

“Until the final third it was overall a good performance,” said Hurzeler. “In the final third, we definitely could do more.

Hurzeler: We were not clean enough

“The second part of the truth is also that we didn't work enough for keeping the clean sheet, we weren't clean enough in the clearances and that's also part of the truth.

“If you want to win here you have to be in both phases and there we weren't good enough today.

“But I also mention again that we saw a lot of positives from our team and we will take also positives away from this game.

“We are always a team who will come back and who never gives up and also today I had the feeling that we kept going, that we kept trying.”

”Again in the final third, the last pass, the last touch, there were so many technical things where we can do better.

“We will analyse it and then we come back stronger and we always have the belief that we can turn around games like this.”
