Council applies for artificial grass pitch in Uckfield to enhance football infrastructure
The clerk for Uckfield Town Council has applied for the creation of a 3G artificial grass pitch (AGP) in Uckfield.
Holly Goring submitted an application to Wealden District Council for the new pitch at Victoria Pleasure Ground at Victoria Pavilion on Old Timbers Lane, New Town.
People can view the application documents at planning.wealden.gov.uk using reference WD/2026/2097/F.
The description said the application is for an artificial grass pitch with perimeter fencing, acoustic fencing, hardstanding areas, a storage container, sports lighting and access pathways.

The agent for it is Surfacing Standards Limited. Their design and access statement said: “The development has been carefully designed to comply with the FA and Sport England guidance, with the intention of enhancing infrastructure. The scheme will provide a modern, durable, and inclusive all-weather sports facility, enabling year-round football activity for both partner club members and the wider community, regardless of seasonal or weather-related constraints.”
The statement said the new AGP would offer improved training and playing surfaces for various age groups and teams. It also said the facility would be available for community use, meaning the site can be a hub for sports and recreational activities. The statement added that the 9,971 square metre site was chosen for its ‘strategic location within a well-established community and its history as a recreational site’.
It continued: “The redevelopment reuses existing open space to deliver much needed grassroots football infrastructure for Uckfield and the wider area.”
It said the proposal has been developed to be sympathetic to its surroundings and said the design ‘reflects best practice in safeguarding, accessibility, sustainability, and local policy alignment’.
The statement said the playing surface would be a 3G artificial grass system that features a 40mm pile, which is ‘partially in-filled with silica sand for stability and granulated rubber for performance’. The artifical grass will be green so it looks like natural grass.
The design statement said: “This surface will be installed over a shockpad and is recognised as the most suitable artificial playing surface for community football and youth football development.”
