Arun’s chosen few will have the best seats in the house for the Paralympics

WORKERS in Littlehampton will be giving up their day jobs – temporarily – to help organise one of the biggest disabled sporting events the world has ever seen.

Sue Eason, Simon Meecham and Margaret Murphy, who all work at the Civic Centre, in Maltravers Road, are among the 70,000 aptly-named games makers, for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

They are part of an army of behind-the-scene volunteers who help make the games run smoothly.

Sue, originally from Rustington but who now lives in Bognor, will spend a total of 10 days at the Paralympics as a lifeguard.

She has already helped at the Olympics where she was delighted to get a chance to catch up with Olympic swimmer Gemma Spofforth, who, under Sue’s expert tutelage, rose to national acclaim.

Sue, who has been with Arun District Council more than 20 years, said: “It was amazing to see Gemma at the Olympics and to get a hug from her when I saw her during the training.” She said: “It was amazing to have been chosen as a lifeguard for the Olympics and the Paralympics. It has been such an unforgettable experience to have been involved in the London 2012 and now the Paralympics. As a lifeguard, you get the best seat in the house and it is wonderful to see the athletes close up.”
