Families from across the Lewes area enjoyed a morning of play and creativity when childhood education platform Tapestry opened its Lewes office for a free Pop Up Stay & Play event during October half term.

In partnership with Pop Up Play Village, Tapestry hosted two sessions in half term, giving children the opportunity to explore an imaginative role-play village, get creative with arts and crafts and play alongside other children. The event was well attended, with families making the most of the free activities during the school holidays.

Dr Helen Edwards, co-founder of Tapestry and former owner of Lewes-based Fiddlesticks nursery, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many local families to our office. It was fantastic to see the children having so much fun, trying the different activities and letting their imaginations run wild.

“At Tapestry, we believe passionately in the importance of play for children’s learning, development and wellbeing. We wanted to bring local families together and give children the opportunity to enjoy imaginative role play, explore different activities and have fun.”

Lulu, who attended with her four-year-old and nine-month-old children, said: “I attended the Tapestry Pop Up Stay & Play with my 4 year old and 9 month old. It was a brilliant event for both of them, my 4 year old particularly enjoyed the building area and vet role play area. It was such a well organised event with friendly and helpful staff. Please do another one!”

Pop Up Play Village is an award-winning mobile role-play village designed to inspire imagination, creativity and learning through play. Its open-plan village gives children the freedom to take on different roles, create their own stories and follow their interests at their own pace.

Becky Hoare, Founder of Pop Up Play Village said: “It was a wonderful experience collaborating with Tapestry to bring Pop Up Play Village to families in Lewes. Seeing children immersed in imaginative role play, creating their own stories, exploring different roles and learning through play is exactly why I created Pop Up Play Village ten years ago. “It's fantastic to work alongside an organisation like Tapestry that shares our passion for championing the importance of play and giving children the freedom to lead their own learning.”

The event was supported by education supplier YPO and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which provided free resources for children to take home. This support was kindly facilitated by Amber Ogunsanya-William aka Playworkeramber who has worked with Tapestry on previous play events:

Tapestry and Playworkeramber have also produced six animated mini films called ‘Play in The Everyday’. The films are aimed at families and celebrate the value of playing everywhere whether that’s on the bus, in a queue or whilst shopping.
