Woolbeding Lane to close for 14 weeks
A section of Woolbeding Lane will close to through traffic starting on March 2, cutting off access from Easebourne to the A272 and Linch Road.
The closure affects the stretch of road running south from the junction of Brambling Lane and Hollist Lane. It will remain shut while the National Trust carries out essential repairs to the Grade II‑listed office building at Woolbeding Gardens.

The work includes repairs to the roof, walls and foundations to ensure the building remains safe for staff and volunteers. The National Trust says the project will also reduce the long‑term risk of debris falling into the road or more significant structural damage that could cause greater disruption.
In a statement, the National Trust said the timing of the repairs was agreed with West Sussex County Council’s highways department: “The dates of the repairs were chosen after consultation… taking into account the timings of other roadworks to ensure the least possible strain on the road network.
This period also avoids harvest times for farmers, while allowing the work to be carried out as efficiently and safely as possible, with more daylight hours for our contractors to work than in the autumn and winter months.”
The road is expected to reopen on June 7. During the closure, vehicles will still be able to access the southern end of the lane, including All Hallows Church.
