Double yellow lines created with 'household paint' in Worthing

The county council said double yellow lines in a Worthing road have been created with ‘household paint’.

Residents questioned whether new parking restrictions that had appeared in Hildon Close, Durrington, were legitimate.

Photos show the double yellows painted next to the pavement, between a driveway and a footpath.

West Sussex County Council (WSCC) said the lines ‘appear to have been created using household paint’ but the authority will ‘not be taking further action.

A WSCC spokesperson said: “We can confirm the double yellow lines that have been painted on Hildon Close in Durrington are not official road markings. They appear to have been created using household paint.

"We would strongly advise residents against entering live carriageways, as this is unsafe and can create risks for both pedestrians and other road users.

"Any road markings on the public highway should only be installed through the appropriate legal and regulatory processes to ensure they are safe, consistent and enforceable. In this instance, we will not be taking further action as the paint has been applied to a concrete surface and is expected to wash away naturally.”
