Eastbourne shopping centre’s opening delayed by 'water leaks'

The Beacon shopping centre in Eastbourne was forced to open later than usual following ‘water leaks’ on Thursday morning (August 27).

There was heavy rain and thunderstorms across the town on Wednesday night (August 26), and the sudden change in weather appeared to take its toll on the shopping centre.

Sports Direct was forced to close, with a sign outside the store reading: “This store is closed due to floods”.

A spokesperson for The Beacon said: “Due to the rain last night, we have woken up to some water leaks inside the centre.

“We apologise for any inconvenience, we will update you as soon as we can!”

The shopping centre then confirmed at 11:13am on social media that they were open for business as normal.

A spokesperson said: “Apologies again for any inconvenience caused this morning.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

The Beacon also confirmed that dinosaurs would be roaming the shopping centre again after they arrived on Wednesday.
