RNLI launch search for next summer’s lifeguard recruits in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton

The RNLI is encouraging people in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton to register their interest in becoming a beach lifeguard for summer 2027.

Following a busy summer on the coast, the charity’s lifeguard team is already preparing for next year, with patrols covering beaches in Littlehampton, Bognor Regis, Southsea and Eastney.

People interested in joining the team are being invited to register their interest to hear about upcoming taster sessions, Beach Lifeguard Courses and job applications.

The RNLI says applicants do not need previous beach lifeguarding qualifications, specialist knowledge or work experience to get started. The charity can help prospective recruits find a suitable training course and may be able to deliver one locally.

Working as an RNLI beach lifeguard offers paid, seasonal employment in an active outdoor role, with the chance to develop practical skills while helping to keep beachgoers safe.

Training includes beach rescue, casualty care and first aid, Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) operations and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) handling.

The seasonal nature of the work can also make it suitable for people balancing employment with studies, travel or other commitments.

The recruitment drive follows a milestone year for the RNLI, which celebrated 25 years of its lifeguard service in 2026.

Across the South East of England, RNLI lifeguards saved 16 lives last year, responded to 2,567 incidents and assisted 2,843 people.

For people in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton considering a summer job with a difference, the charity says the role offers the ‘opportunity to gain valuable experience, work as part of a supportive team and make a potentially lifesaving difference on the coast.

Anyone interested in becoming an RNLI beach lifeguard for summer 2027 can register their interest through the charity’s RNLI Lifeguards – Expression of Interest for Summer 2027 form.

Registering will allow a member of the team to get in touch with information about local taster sessions, training courses and job opportunities, as well as answer questions about getting started.

No previous lifeguarding experience is required to register an interest.
