West Sussex construction vehicle incident: A283 still partially closed 24 hours after HGV 'shed its load'

The A283 remains partially closed near Steyning more than 24 hours after an incident involving a heavy goods vehicle.

A283 Washington Road was closed both ways, between Water Lane and B2135 Horsham Road, after the incident at Wiston around 9am on Thursday (November 17).

As of 10am on Friday, the road reportedly remains partially blocked, with temporary traffic lights in operation.

In a statement at 5.20pm on Thursday, a Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Officers remain on the scene to support the road closure while partner agencies work to clear the route. No injuries have been reported.”

According to traffic reports, a lorry ‘shed its load of construction vehicles down a ditch’.

This morning, severe delays have been reported eastbound on A283 Washington Road and are said to be increasing.

Meanwhile, the B2135 remains closed both ways between Star Road and the Ashurst Village Hall. This is due to flooding and the road is expected to remain closed ‘for a few days’. according to traffic reports.
