Storm fears force Worthing Raiders to play without fans in ground

Storm safety fears forced Worthing Raiders to play their latest Regional 1 South Central match behind locked gates.

Saturday’s high winds led to a decision not to allow supporters into the ground for the clash at home to Sevenoaks, which they lost 41-10 to slip to tenth in the table.

A statement on the club’s Facebook page on Saturday said: “Worthing RFC have been working very hard over the past 48 hours to ensure the game today went ahead as usual.

"Sadly due to the current weather warnings, and the number of trees on our site, the difficult decision has been made to play behind closed doors.

"The safety of everyone coming to our club is paramount, and the decision to not have supporters has not been taken lightly.

"We thank everyone who has been involved over the past two days, and we are sure that everyone’s spirit will still be behind the players. Thank you for your understanding.”

There was better news for the seconds – Raiders As produced a dominant display to secure a 68-7 win away to Weybridge Vandals twos.
