WI

The next meeting of Catsfield’s WI will be on Thursday 5th November at 2pm in the Village Hall. The meeting is intriguingly entitled ‘Christmas Crafternoon’ and will be led by our secretary Beryl. The usual delicious teas will be served and visitors and new members are always welcome.
REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
The nation will be remembering the dead of two World Wars and other conflicts on Remembrance Sunday 8th November. There will be a special morning Eucharist at St Laurence Church when the names of those Catsfield men who gave their lives for their country will be read out and the ceramic poppies will be on display, one for each of them. Wreathes will be laid by representatives of local groups and the silence will be held.
CRAFT FAIR
There will be a Craft Fair held in the Catsfield Village Hall on Saturday 14th November from 10am until 1.30pm. Local makers will be selling high-quality jewellery, hand-knits, textiles, cards, bunting, art and lots more. Refreshments will be available and there’s free parking and free entry. The sale is to raise money for the Alzheimers Society so do come along and support us and buy your Christmas gifts.
CHRISTMAS MARKET
The St Laurence Church ever-popular traditional Christmas Market will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday 28th November from 10am – 1.30pm. The hall will be full of attractive stalls heaving with gifts, home produce (such as chutneys, jams, cakes etc,) plants, toiletries, tombola, winter warmers and a raffle with prizes of Christmas hampers and other goodies. The kitchen will serve sausage rolls, sandwiches, scones, mince pies and mulled wine plus fresh coffee and teas. Do come along and feel the Christmas spirit, buy gifts and treats or just enjoy the refreshments with friends. We look forward to welcoming you.

JAN REMEMBERS
Apparently, according to the TV, I heard that the latest way to meet a prospective partner is by matchmaking, who would’ve thought that online dating sites would become obsolete. In our day, you met at the Youth Club or in my case, at a dance. Those were the days of Rock’n’roll although when I first met Brian he was incapable of rocking or rolling due to the fact that he had his foot in plaster following surgery to his toes. The dances were held at the Langton Hall in Battle and we danced to the music of records. We girls wore circular skirts, stiff petticoats and stiletto heels to show off our legs as we twirled around the hall, although the heels were soon banned because of the damage they did to the floors. Further along the High Street there was a coffee bar which had a juke box and we could play all our favourite music – Buddy Holly was always my choice. Such heady days.
