Crawley Town column: I think the word to use is concern

Crisis seems like a bit of a strong word to use six games into the season. I think the word to use is concern. After one win, a draw and four defeats we find ourselves back in familiar territory inside the relegation zone in League Two. Only Rochdale the team we’ve actually beaten so far this campaign sit below us.

We’ve seen plenty of promise and even took the lead on Saturday through new boy Dylan Morgan. But defensively we look vulnerable and the scoreline reflected that at full time, with Reds losing at home again, this time by three goals to one.

Manager Colin Kazim-Richard’s has his work cut out to get his new players gelling and winning football matches. After two seasons of relegation battles, nobody wants another one. But right now it looks increasingly likely that it’s going to be a struggle once again.

The loan market is always an option, and quite possibly a little bit of experience wouldn’t go amiss right now. The players certainly look like they need some help. Something certainly needs to change and fast, because although we are only six games in, before we know it that six games will become ten, and I that’s when you can see the league table taking shape for real. A couple of wins would get us right back to where we want to be. But right now it’s hard to see where those wins are going to come from.

All the talk pre season was of a much more positive and exciting year. That hype and positivity is fast evaporating. We find ourselves sleepwalking into another tough season. Let’s hope our fortunes change quickly. We need to find a win from somewhere and fast. The league table doesn’t make for good reading at this moment in time.
