Residents at a care home in Littlehampton enjoyed an afternoon of fun and friendly competition as the local community joined them to celebrate the simple joys of traditional games.

Care UK’s Darlington Court, on The Leas off Station Road, teamed up with members of the community to take part in a life-size board game event, bringing different generations together to rediscover the simple pleasure of playing traditional games together.
In preparation for the event, the home’s maintenance team this was the lifestyle team built a giant Ludo board, with four members of the team acting as life-size pieces. Throughout the afternoon, residents and their competing rivals split into teams and got stuck into the game with plenty of friendly rivalry and laughter along the way.

In the end, the blue team took home the win after successfully reaching the finish line first.
Robert Buckland, a resident at Darlington Court, said: “It was amazing to have a life size game for everyone to enjoy! Ludo is a game I remember from childhood.”
The event was part of Care UK’s ‘Bored Games’ initiative – a nationwide campaign intended to revive the magic of family and community games nights. At a time when social media and online gaming have transformed how people spend their leisure time, the initiative is celebrating the simple joys of spending time together playing traditional board games and the memories they can create.
From community events and intergenerational activities, Care UK care homes across the UK are celebrating togetherness and reconnecting residents with the games that shaped their younger years.
Costin Matei, Home Manager at Darlington Court, said: “We had such a wonderful time opening our doors to the community to take part in our life-size game of Ludo. It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved and enjoying some friendly competition.
“For many residents, traditional games nights represent a lifetime of treasured memories, so this was a great opportunity to revisit those moments while creating new memories with the local community.
“It was truly heartwarming to watch residents reminisce and share stories about games they enjoyed when they were younger, while also discovering new favourites together.
“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone for joining us and making the day so special. We’re already looking forward to our next games night!”
