2 STORMS, NO TEACUPS!! Just the fact that were devastated and cancelled in their wake. Our poor Ninfield Bonfire Society, who work tirelessly all year to fundraise and organise the annual Bonfire & Fireworks Night, had no choice than to accept the directive from the Pyrotechnic company , and cancel the event due to the forecast high winds and driving rain. Such a shame, but not surprising, and safety has to come first. Onwards and upwards, keep going NBS!

NINFIELD COMMUNITY CAFE- Friday 30th October 10 -11.30am. Pop down and catch up with neighbours and friends over a cup of your preferred beverage!

NINFIELD & DISTRICT ART SOCIETY EXHIBITION : Last weekend at The Memorial Hall: what an amazing celebration of creativity , featuring a wide range of stunning artworks by talented local artists. The exhibition was stunning, and although there was a slight leak through the roof due to the ghastly weather- which also stopped some people venturing out, those that made it were impressed by the high standard of work on display.

A FEAST OF HARMONY; Saturday 7th November, St Mary’s Church - 7pm for 7.30 start Entry £10, children free, refreshments available. A mix of Music from Baroque to Musical Theatre. Singers led by Louise Winter, Piano- Arran Keith.

FILM MATINEES: "We're so sorry that we've been unable to start our films again after the Summer Break....Now, even though The Memorial Hall did assure us that there should be NO cancellation next time, unfortunately, and with great sadness, the 10th November film, Ealing Comedy classic: Whiskey Galore has had to be CANCELLED AGAIN!! The roof should be being tiled during this week, and the noise would be far too much to show a film: also, to stop the works on that afternoon just to show the film somewhat defeats the object of trying to get the work done quickly!!! So, it is as it is...and it's devastating that 3 films have gone, plus a Vintage Afternoon Tea Dance in the 3 months of overdue Roof repairs. Please keep the faith, and watch this space for updates and new event details. xx

HOOE & NINFIELD OPEN GROUP: We met on Friday as usual and we had a very interesting and informative talk by Angela Wallis of Woodside Acupuncture based in Ninfield. She explained the three-year Bachelor of Science training she had at the International College of Acupuncture. She is also trained in Swedish Body Massage. She has recently completed a Diploma in Bach Flower Remedies. Apparently, there are 38 flower remedies used across the globe to support your emotional health

Some of us had already been treated by Angela and judging by the interest shown more people will benefit from her expertise.

Next month we meet at the Methodist Hall 2.00pm Friday 13th November.

NINFIELD BOWLS CLUB DIARY!

We had a full hectic diary of events during the summer season that has kept all club members busy and entertained. The weather has been hot, but thankfully our irrigation system has worked well and our grounds team have worked wonders to produce an excellent green for playing.

The club hosted a ‘Gentlemen’s Invitation’ competition in July that was attended by ten very competitive bowls clubs from the Rother area. Alas, as hosts we did not take part but provided a superb tea which the players devoured with immense delight. The exhaustive and marathonic

competition commenced at 10.00am and concluded at 4.30pm with Hollington being crowned the winning team.

Fundraising fun on Friday 6th November!placeholder image

We also held a ‘President’s Day’ competition in July when the club members were divided into two teams, ‘The Roundhead’ and ‘Cavaliers’. No swords were drawn but everyone had fun and particularly enjoyed the chicken & chip supper that followed, but more to the point, we raised a good sum for the Alzheimer’s Society

Our ‘finals day’ competition was held in early September when the men’s and ladies deciding game was played and the winner crowned champion for the year. Once again, tea and cake biscuits were provided.

And talking of biscuits, you may recall from our previous diary entry that the inclusion of biscuits at tea time is an essential element to the game, without which, the performance of bowlers can be enhanced or diminished. Our intrepid bowlers were performing well in the Rother League and were seventh position, until that is, someone left the lid of the biscuit tin rendering the biscuits inedible and thus reducing the performance of our bowlers with distressful results. The biscuit tin culprit was dispatched to ‘Dells’ shop only to return with a packet of ‘ginger nuts’

I am pleased to report that the tang of the ginger nuts fired our bowlers into a what can only be described as a muted frenzy and your Ninfield village team, as a consequence, won more games than they lost and are now ( at the time of writing ) in fifth position in the Rother League with one game left to play

There are discussions within the club house that the addition of custard creams to the teatime ritual had produced the excellence whilst others maintain that it was the inclusion of bourbons, but what ever, the bowlers are doing the village proud !
